QA Engineer
We're looking for a QA Engineer who can break things before our users do. You'll test mobile apps and web applications across our client projects, ensuring every release is polished, performant, and bug-free.
About AppUp Labs
AppUp Labs is a mobile app development company specializing in building custom iOS, Android, and cross-platform applications for startups and growing businesses. We work with clients primarily in the US, UK, and European markets, creating beautiful and functional mobile experiences.
We're a small team (9 people) that ships real products to real users. As we take on more projects, we need someone dedicated to quality - someone who catches the bugs, edge cases, and UX issues before our users ever see them. That's where you come in.
The Role
We're looking for a QA Engineer who takes pride in finding problems. You'll test mobile apps (Flutter, iOS, Android) and web applications (Next.js/React) across multiple client projects. This is a hands-on role - you'll be testing real apps used by thousands of people.
Reporting to: Lead Developer / Founder
Location: Remote (India)
Work Type: Full-Time
What You'll Do
Testing & Quality:
Test mobile apps on real iOS and Android devices - not just simulators
Write and maintain test cases, test plans, and bug reports that developers actually find useful
Test APIs using Postman or similar tools - verify endpoints, error handling, and edge cases
Perform regression testing before every release
Test across different screen sizes, OS versions, and network conditions
Process & Collaboration:
Work closely with developers to reproduce, document, and verify bug fixes
Collaborate with designers to verify UI implementation matches Figma specs
Participate in sprint planning and help estimate testing effort
Help build and improve our QA processes as the team grows
Flag UX issues and usability concerns - not just functional bugs
What You'll Test:
Flutter mobile apps (iOS and Android)
Next.js/React web applications and admin dashboards
REST APIs and backend integrations
Payment flows, auth systems, and real-time features
Requirements
Must-Haves:
1-2 years of QA/testing experience - you've tested real apps, not just followed tutorials
Mobile testing experience - you know the quirks of testing on iOS and Android
API testing skills - comfortable with Postman, understanding of REST APIs and status codes
Attention to detail - you notice when a button is 2px off or a loading state is missing
Clear communication - you can write bug reports that developers don't have to ask follow-up questions about
Self-motivated - comfortable working remotely and managing your own testing schedule
Nice-to-Haves:
Experience with test automation (Appium, Detox, Selenium, Playwright)
Basic understanding of Flutter or React (helps you understand what you're testing)
Experience with CI/CD and how testing fits into the pipeline
Performance testing experience (load testing, profiling)
Security testing basics (OWASP, common vulnerabilities)
Tools You'll Use:
Postman - API testing
Real devices + simulators - iOS and Android testing
GitHub - Bug tracking and issue management
Figma - Design reference for visual QA
Slack - Team communication
Notion - Test documentation and planning
Don't worry if you haven't used all of these - we'll help you get up to speed.
Benefits
🏝️ Weekends OFF - Saturday & Sunday (we actually mean it)
🎧 Spotify Premium - Company paid (test with good music)
😊 20 Days Paid Leave - Sick days, personal days, mental health days
💰 Work-from-Home Setup - ₹15K one-time allowance for your workspace
📚 Learning Budget - ₹20K/year for courses, books, conferences
🏡 Fully Remote - Work from anywhere in India
🍊 Flexible Hours - Core hours for team collaboration, flexibility otherwise

Respected Role: QA isn't an afterthought here - we genuinely value quality and your input matters
Small Team: Direct collaboration with developers and designers (no ticket-passing bureaucracy)
Growth Path: Build out our QA processes, introduce automation, grow into a QA Lead role
What We're NOT:
Not a company where QA is treated as a lesser role
Not a place where you'll just click through test cases mindlessly
Not a "ship it broken, we'll fix it later" culture
What We ARE:
A small, focused team that cares about craft
Growing steadily (not hyper-growth chaos)
Building real products that matter to users
Creating a sustainable, healthy work environment
Ideal Candidate Profile
You Should Apply If You:
Get genuine satisfaction from finding bugs others missed
Think like a user, not just a tester - you care about the whole experience
Are organized and methodical but also creative in finding edge cases
Want to learn and eventually move into test automation
Value work-life balance and a healthy work environment
Don't Apply If You:
Think QA is just about following scripts and checking boxes
Write bug reports like "it's broken" with no steps to reproduce
Need constant hand-holding and can't prioritize your own testing
Don't care about the product - you just want to "pass" test cases
Are looking for a large corporate environment with fancy offices
Show us examples of well-written bug reports or test plans if you have them. We want to see how you think about quality.
